The Hero Within RPG 10: The Healer Class โ Lifesavers, Mystics, and Keepers of Balance
What makes a great Healer? Is it their ability to restore life, their deep connection to the spirit, or their unwavering dedication to others?
In The Hero Within, the Healer is more than just a support roleโthey are the backbone of survival, the steady hand in chaos, and the voice of hope in the darkest moments.
Whether through divine power, alchemical remedies, or sheer willpower, Healers ensure that their allies stand strong.
With three stages of progression, Healers evolve into masters of restoration and resilience. But we want to hear from you! Should Healers focus purely on healing, or should they have additional support and combat mechanics? Letโs explore the possibilities together!
๐น The Healer Class Progression
Healers in The Hero Within are more than medicsโthey shape the flow of battle. Their journey unfolds as follows:
Medic (Stage 1): A reliable field healer, skilled in treating wounds and basic restorative magic.
Restorer (Stage 2): A seasoned practitioner, balancing healing with protective abilities.
Cleric (Stage 3): A legendary force of healing and divine intervention, capable of turning the tide of battle.
Each stage enhances the Healerโs ability to restore, protect, and empower their allies.
Community Question:
Should Healers focus solely on healing, or should they have access to defensive and support abilities as well?
What abilities or mechanics should define the ultimate Cleric?
๐ฟ Healing Methods โ How Should Healers Restore Life?
Healing isnโt one-size-fits-all. Healers can specialize in different methods of restoration, shaping their abilities and play style. Some possible healing styles include:
Divine Restoration โ Channeling holy energy to mend wounds and cure ailments.
Alchemical Healing โ Using potions, herbs, and medical expertise to sustain allies.
Vital Energy Transfer โ Redirecting life force from one source to another.
Shielding and Prevention โ Mitigating damage before it happens rather than healing afterward.
Community Question:
Should Healers rely on a single healing method, or should they mix different techniques?
What unique healing mechanics would make playing a Healer more engaging?
๐ Beyond Healing โ Should Healers Have Additional Roles?
Healers are often seen as pure support, but should they have alternative abilities beyond healing? Some possibilities include:
Buffing & Empowering Allies โ Granting temporary strength, speed, or resilience.
Debilitating Enemies โ Weaken foes by cursing or disrupting their abilities.
Battlefield Control โ Using barriers, wards, and area-of-effect healing zones.
Self-Sustain & Defense โ Ensuring they arenโt entirely dependent on allies.
Community Question:
Should Healers have offensive or utility abilities beyond healing?
How should a Healer defend themselves if targeted?
โ๏ธ Balancing Healing โ Should There Be Limits?
A challenge with healing mechanics is balanceโensuring that healing feels rewarding without making battles trivial. Possible balancing mechanics include:
Limited Healing Resources: Healers rely on energy, mana, or supplies to restore health.
Cooldown-Based Healing: Stronger abilities require time before reuse.
Overhealing Risks: Excessive healing may cause unintended effects or magical backlash.
Community Question:
Should Healers have limits on their healing capabilities, or should they be unrestricted?
How can healing be made strategic rather than just reactionary?

As far as what they should use for healing.
As far as just being a healer class my advice to take or leave is the same.
Let the player decide
Donโt over complicate the abilities.
But let the player decide when they make the character how they want their healer to heal.
Whether it be through divine healing, Herbalism, or maybe they just give players compliments and they feel better.
Give them offensive abilities. Because what do they do when everyone is fine? When they go first in combat?
Also exclusively healing gets really repetitive and doesnโt feel strategic. So give them offense give them something to do.
To be honest I would give them damage abilities unless you plan on making multi classing mandatory.
