I’m biased, but that was a fun episode. Sorry for yelling, dad. I think I was trying to compensate for having a sore throat and I didn’t realize I was quite so loud.😂 You bring out my passionate side. 🙄😁🤓

You were not so loud. I fixed the audio and should not have boosted it 🫣

Well. That’s comforting, I suppose.

I think villain story’s are interesting largely because of that human nature thing you were talking about.

How do different people (namely the heroes and the villains) respond to tragedy. it’s fascinating. Because when the going gets tough you get to see who people really are.

The important thing to realize is. No matter how bad someone else treated you doesn’t mean your punishment is going to be any less it just means theirs is going to suck too.

Also I’m a sucker for redemption arcs. (Like Zuko from avatar the last airbender. Great writing in my opinion)

Ohhhh, I like those points, Joseph.

I'm also a sucker for a redemption arc as well. For me this is all about understanding a person...to know what makes them tick, what motivates them, and what is the line they will/won't cross.

One of the things we went over and I wanted to expand on, is even though I have compassion for another, doesn't mean I turn my back on the law. There are always consequences for the choices we make.

You always have a choice. Now, those choices may suck, but you still have a choice -- no matter the circumstances. That's where, like you just said, "get to see who people really are."

Thanks for the feedback, Joseph. Always great to have you chime in!

Zuko’s story arc is definitely one of my favorite things about Avatar the Last Airbender. Redemption arcs are so compelling.

It’s the same idea with Frodo and Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. Gollum doesn’t change, but Frodo maintained a hope that he could change. And he only had compassion for Gollum after he experienced first hand the torment of carrying the One Ring like Gollum had. (Remember he wanted to kill Gollum when he first heard of him and said it was a pity Bilbo hadn’t) At that point he needed saving just like Gollum did.

The hope that people can change and that there is redemption for EVERYONE is an enticing storyline. It adds great internal conflict too. Drama....

But eventually, like you said Joseph, you find out who people are.

Choices,...and consequences.

I listened to this the other day but couldn't really comment until now. I agree with your wife...most likely because my mom shares a similar sentiment. But having compassion, understanding, and empathy for the villains is not always bad. As you all eventually came around to say, you can know their full story because they are personalities (as are we all) but allowing any sob story to be justified or seen as a credible excuse for bad behavior is not at all what should be done. Unfortunately, this is happening all too much in the modern world, as the heroes/protagonists of stories, shows, movies, and games are becoming increasingly grey. It's bad for those who don't already have a strong moral compass and can look at the situation and be able to determine what is good, what is bad, what should be emulated, what should be avoided, etc. But there are so many who are just morally grey themselves and they don't see anything wrong with that. That's where the danger lies, in my opinion. While it's true that no one is perfect, there's supposed to be some kind of rule stating what we should strive for. And even if a main character makes mistakes, we should be able to tell that it is a mistake, and not just something done without regards one way or the other, if that makes sense. But that's just me, and most people think I'm too strict anyways lol 😅 nevertheless, God bless you and your family. I enjoy listening to these conversations and I agree with you all a lot! 😝

That’s part of the focus, and how I’d like to tell stories. To show the character of Wendell and those around him. There will be conflicts rarely brought out in stories that I have seen.

Consequences are real, and we will, eventually, pay for our choices.

Always.

You are the only one to blame for Asia's passion. You gave it too her and I think it so much fun to hear you pull the, "I helped make you" card.
