33. I'm A Little Teapot
“Then get in," Morty nudged him. "I’ll get you across town as fast as I can.”
When the Gem awakens to call a Hero, the world is ill prepared...and its fate is placed in the hands of a 17 year old boy, named Wendell.
Some will say this is nothing but a tale of fiction.
Let them think as they may.
After all...I can't fix stupid.
Previously: Tensions mounted as Wendell and his companions navigated the perilous depths of Clockworks City. With the mysterious PROMIS experiment wreaking havoc and Morty Teedlebaum caught in the wreckage of his own ambitions, the group struggled to secure an ally. But when Wendell’s Ithari is revealed, Morty is forced to reconsider his reluctance—because the fate of the world might just hinge on their next move.
There’s nothing wrong in asking for help. I’m not saying that it’s always easy or comfortable to do so—just that there’s nothing wrong in asking.
It took a while to figure out a plan that would get Morty, three humans, a midget evolu (which looked more like a troll) and a fellow gnome, across town without being noticed.
There was a standing law in Clockworks City against off-landers, which meant, should they be caught, unspeakable things could happen. Gnomes were constantly reminded of the dangerous 'Gate Wars'. When other races decided technology should be for everyone and not just the gnomes, and they tried to take it by force. That sudden and violent invasion of their homeland changed everything.
Rogue humans, kutollum, and even evolu had rushed the portal into Clockworks City, slaughtering thousands of innocents. Crossing into another country and taking what did not belong to them.
All for technology.
It was the main reason for the 'vow' all Gentre made at adulthood. Regardless of the differences of beliefs and perspectives on…well, just about everything else, gnomes were united in their vow.
Technology was for gnomes and gnomes alone.
Well,…except for a single breach of Clockworks University.
That was deemed okay.
A single human, who called himself 'Jaime D. Bunkinwickle' snuck into the University under the guise of a gnome, using a strong magical charm. He was caught after a time, but only after a string of selfless accomplishments, all to improve the lives of gnomes.
…but that was the exception, not the rule.
Because of the Gate Wars, it was forbidden for outsiders to set foot onto the island of Pävärios…and most especially within Clockworks itself. The Prime Gate used by the gnomes had been shut down and dismantled. No one could show up unannounced or uninvited.
So the gnomes thought, anyway.
Morty kept the group isolated within the main area of the warehouse, where he’d dismantled the government installed cameras. They wouldn’t be able to leave anyway—Chuck’s sheer height, or even Lili’s for that matter, would catch the immediate attention of normals. Deloris lived across town and down one floor.
They had to come up with an alternative plan.
